STATIC IMAGERY

ADJUSTING EXPOSURE, CAPTURING SUBJECT & EDITING PHOTOGRAPH

During Thomas’ video embarkment at Elon University, he purchased a Canon 77D DSLR (digital single-lens reflect) camera after discovering the visual possibilities of SDoF (shallow depth of field) — This feature was particularly noticeable when comparing Canon 77D images to iPhone images on location.

While experimenting with the Canon 77D, Thomas began using this equipment (both handheld + stable) to further expand his cinematic viewpoint. Throughout these extended periods of photography, Thomas discovered the advantages of capturing subjects (foreground + background), scoping alternative environments (inside + outside) and comparing light levels (day + night).

Quick Tip A: It’s important to recognize how alternative focal points, open spaces, and light differences affect the characteristics of an environment, or subject.

Quick Tip B: Photography is easy to learn — Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or an expert, it’s worth having photographic memories for a lifetime.
